What is Psychological Therapy?

Therapy Office

Psychological therapy involves talking to a trained professional about an emotional difficulty you are experiencing, which may involve feeling anxious, or unsure about the future of a relationship; experiencing grief, loss or trauma.

You will be encouraged to express and reflect on your thoughts, feelings and behaviours in a non-judgemental, confidential and safe space.

Through psychological therapy, you will be

  • Helped to make sense of your thoughts and feelings

  • Supported to see yourself and your relationships more clearly

  • Encouraged to open up new ways of thinking, feeling and behaving

  • Helped to become more conscious of what is holding you back

  • Helped to make different choices

  • Encouraged to stop engaging in damaging patterns and behaviours

  • Able to find better ways of coping with your feelings and anxieties.

Psychological therapy can help you to reflect on the important relationships in your life and give insight into how expectations of others is influenced by your past experiences.

Through talking to a professional you can be helped to see situations more objectively and to change the way you think and behave to improve your mental well-being.
